CES 2022 - Mini/Micro LED Products from 20 Manufacturers - Sneak Peek!
With the arrival of 2022, the consumer electronics event CES has also kicked off. We have compiled the latest Mini/Micro LED and Micro OLED product information to show you what Mini/Micro LED and Micro OLED products are available from major brands in the new year.
TV
▶Samsung
For Mini LED TV, Samsung announced the new Mini LED TV Neo QLED 4K and 8K series models, which support 144Hz high refresh rate and have 14-bit color depth. The product introduces advanced contrast mapping technology for more accurate control of the light source, and the TV can reach 16,384 steps of brightness control, which is four times more than the previous generation of products. In addition, it is the industry's first premium TV to support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology, which provides high precision brightness and wide color gamut test results for a better gaming visual experience.
For Micro LED TV, Samsung brings 110-inch and 89-inch Micro LED TVs. The latest versions of Micro LED TVs match more useful and customized features, including: Art mode that displays artwork and photos according to user preferences and a split-screen function that displays multiple contents at the same time, as well as Dolby Atmos sound effects.
Samsung said the new 2022 TVs are enhanced with smart TV features that use machine learning to make content recommendations for users. In addition, Samsung added that more Samsung TVs will be connected to Nvidia and Google's gaming platform in the future.
▶LG
LG unveiled its 2022 TV lineup, including the new OLED Evo TV, QNED TV and Nanocell TV. Among them, the QNED Mini LED-backlit series TVs have 8K resolution. LG said that the color capacity of all QNED series TVs will be increased to 100% in 2022. In addition, LG showed a 136-inch 4K HDR Micro LED TV during the CES presentation and revealed that the first Micro LED TVs will be shipped later this year.
In addition, LG is also improving the gaming experience of its new TVs, which it said support NVIDIA G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium technologies and access to streaming gaming platforms such as NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Google Stadia for better gaming graphics display.
▶TCL
TCL presented the world's thinnest 8K Mini LED-backlit TV X925 pro at the CES 2022 online conference, with a TV thickness of only 10mm, equipped with TCL's third-generation MiniLED technology, 144Hz refresh rate and more than 2,000 light control zones, featuring high contrast ratio and ultra-wide color gamut.
In addition, TCL revealed that Mini LED is the current core strategic direction of TCL TV, and in 2022 TCL will launch 3 series, 4 sizes, 7 product lines and 18 Mini LED products.
▶ Sony
Sony announced six new products, the A95K with QD-OLED panel, the 4K OLED TV A80K, the OLED TV A90K, the full-array backlit LED LCD TV X90K and the Mini LED backlit TV X95K and Z9K.
This is Sony's first Mini LED TV launch. The X95K has 4K resolution and the Z9K has 8K resolution, both TVs have Mini LED as backlight with 2500 light control partitions, and use Backlight Master Drive technology for improved black and white contrast and light control. In terms of size, the Z9K is available in 85 and 75 inches, and the X95K is available in 85/75/65 inches.
In addition, Sony mentioned that the new BRAVIA XR series TVs all support game mode. When accessing Sony's own PS5 game console, the TV will automatically switch to game mode, this mode will achieve 4k resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, and the game picture quality will be improved.
▶ Hisense
The U9H is 76 inches in size, with 4K resolution, 1280 full-array local light control zones, and a peak brightness of 2000nits. The product will be available at the end of the second quarter of 2022 and is expected to be priced at $3,200.
Another Mini LED product, the U8H, is available in 55/65/75-inch sizes, with 4K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 1500nits, and will be available in the middle of Q2 2022 for $1099.
It is reported that both TV products have professional gaming mode and are equipped with Google TV system to improve the gaming experience and entertainment performance of the TV.
Display
▶ Samsung
For monitors, Samsung launched the world's first curved gaming monitor "Odyssey Neo G8" at CES 2022 that supports 4K resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and Mini LED backlight technology. The display size is 32 inches, the display curvature is 1000R, the peak brightness is 2000nits, and the static contrast ratio is 1,000,000:1.
From the naming speculation, Odyssey Neo G8 is the same series as Samsung's first Mini LED-backlit Odyssey Neo G9 launched in July last year, but compared to the G9 monitor, the G8 has a lower configuration and is expected to be priced lower than the G9.
▶ Acer
Acer showed two Mini LED-backlit gaming screens at CES 2022, the Predator X32 and X32FP, which are both 32 inches.
The X32 monitor features 1,152 light-controlled zones, 4K resolution, refresh rate up to 160Hz, covers 89.5% of the Rec. 2020 color gamut and 99% of the AdobeRGB color gamut, and reaches a maximum display brightness of 1,400nit. The X32 is expected to debut in China in the second quarter of 2022 at a price of approximately RMB 12,999.
Announced last December, the X32FP monitor features Quantum Dot Mini LED technology with 576 light control partitions, 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160, 1ms response time, refresh rate up to 165Hz, and covers 99% of the AdobeRGB wide color gamut. The monitor has been certified for DisplayHDR 1000, so in HDR mode Peak brightness is expected to reach at least 1000nits and support 90W power output. X32P will debut in China in March 2022 at a price of approximately RMB 10,999.
▶ AOC
AOC TPV announced its new AGON PRO brand 27-inch Mini LED backlit gaming monitor AG274QGM, equipped with NVIDIA G-SYNC ULTIMATE technology and NVIDIA Reflex delay analyzer, with 2K resolution, 300Hz refresh rate, 1mm GtG response time and 576 light control areas, and passed VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. It is reported that this monitor will be available in China in July.
▶ MSI
MSI announced the 27-inch Mini LED-backlit gaming monitor MEG 271Q Mini LED, equipped with a fast IPS panel with 2K (2560×1440) resolution and built-in NVIDIA G-SYNC ULTIMATE technology with 1ms GtG response time and 300Hz refresh rate. The monitor features more than 500 local light control zones and over 1,000 Mini LEDs, as well as 97% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. MSI has not yet announced the price and availability of this monitor.
▶ ASUS
ASUS ROG has released the 32-inch Mini LED-backlit gaming monitor ROG Swift PG32UQXE. The monitor uses AUO's latest AmLED (Adaptive Mini LED) panel technology, has 576 independent light control partitions, supports 4K resolution, 160Hz refresh rate and 1000nit peak brightness, covers 97% DCI-P3 color gamut, and is VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certified.
▶ Viewsonic
UPC showed the 32-inch Mini LED-backlit monitor XG321UG, the monitor has 1152 backlight partitions, 4K (3840x216) resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 3.6ms response time. The screen has VESA Display HDR1400 certification with peak brightness up to 1400nits and coverage of 99% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3 color gamut. The display has Nvidia's G-Sync Ultimate variable refresh rate feature built in. The product will be available in the first quarter of 2022 for approximately $2,499.
▶ Innolux
The online debut of the intelligent car driver's compartment, multi-person naked eye N3D display and the new generation of Groupware's Mini LED backlight "InnoLED technology". The debut of InnoLED technology has been introduced to a full range of display applications, according to Clustertron. The world premiere of the bezel-less extreme gaming console monitor from Cluster has features such as ultra-high contrast ratio, 85% BT2020 high color gamut, low power consumption, low blue light eye protection, and thin design.
▶ AUO
At CES 2022, AUO joins hands with Acer, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI computer manufacturers to create high-end monitor and notebook products. Many computer products use AUO's latest AmLED (Adaptive Mini LED) panel technology.
It is understood that AUO AmLED panel technology uses inorganic materials for better durability and is less prone to aging phenomena such as color degradation, residual shadows and branding under prolonged use. It also supports G-Sync, FreeSync, Adaptive-Sync and other image synchronization processing technologies to present sharp images and smooth gaming graphics at high frame rates.
In addition to applications in computer products, AUO is also extending its large-size AmLED panels into the automotive market.
AUO is showcasing a series of in-vehicle display applications during CES, hoping to promote the application of AmLED panel technology in in-vehicle center consoles and instrument panels to meet drivers' needs for visibility of driving safety information and passengers' audio-visual entertainment needs, becoming a key part of car companies' realization of future intelligent cockpits.
Laptop
▶ ASUS
ASUS ROG showcased the dual-screen gaming laptop ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, the laptop is equipped with AMD Ryzen 9 6000 series processor with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. The main screen offers two options, including a 16:10 screen ratio Mini LED panel with a 165Hz refresh rate, 100,000:1 contrast ratio, and VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification. The other is Dual Spec, a screen developed by ROG in collaboration with BOE, which allows for free switching of resolution and refresh rate between 4K 120Hz or Full HD 240Hz.
▶ GIGABYTE
GIGABYTE is launching the AERO notebook series with 2nd generation Intel Core processors at CES 2022. Among them, the AERO17 model notebook introduces AUO AmLED (Adaptive Mini LED) panel technology with 4K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, which enables performance modulation while optimizing the display experience. The product has received VESA DisplayHDR 1000 High Contrast Ratio certification.
Wearable Devices
▶ Vuzix
Vuzix, a US-based smart glasses company, showcased Vuzix Shield, AR glasses based on ultra-thin binocular waveguide technology, equipped with a pair of Micro LED projection modules measuring only 1 micron, featuring high pixel density for displaying clear video content. In addition, the glasses are powered by an 8-core CPU, use the Android 11 operating system, and support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. Meanwhile, the AR glasses have built-in stereo audio, battery and touchpad.
▶ Panasonic
Panasonic's wholly owned subsidiary Shiftall Inc. is showcasing MaganeX, the world's first 5.2K high dynamic range VR glasses with 2560 x 2560 resolution, a micro OLED display DOC with reduced power consumption and 10bits color depth, and Pancake, an all-plastic optical device, at CES 2022. The glasses are small and light enough to be worn for long periods of time, and the VR glasses also offer pupillary distance (IPD) and diopter adjustment for use without corrective lenses.
▶ TCL
TCL announced the launch of two smart glasses at CES 2022, TCLNXTWEAR AIR and TCLLEINIAO AR.
TCL NXTWEAR AIR is TCL's second generation of wearable display AR glasses, which feature dual Micro OLED displays with 1080p monocular resolution and 47PDD retinal resolution. in addition, the glasses can display a 140-inch virtual screen at a distance of 4 meters. Functionality, glasses with dual speakers, with wired or wireless headset connection and smartphones, tablets, computers and other devices that support DP (DisplayPort) connected. Weighing 75 grams, the glasses are convenient and suitable for scenarios such as watching movies, playing games and working on the go.
TCLLEINIAO AR is also an AR glasses equipped with binocular full-color Micro LED display and holographic light waveguide technology.
▶ Cellid
Japanese startup Cellid demonstrated a sample of AR glasses display module "Cellid Waveguide 60", a display module with 60-degree micro LED display with the world's widest field of view installed in a light waveguide structure. The module contains a wider field-of-view optical waveguide and an ultra-compact Micro LED projector of 1.2 cubic centimeters in size. Currently, Cellid is only supplying single green samples, and samples of the full-color display version are expected to be available starting around February 2022.
▶ Seoul Viosys
Seoul Semiconductor's subsidiary, SeoulViosys, will exhibit WICOP mc products for VR headset device microdisplays at CES 2022.
